Bar vs Liquid Soap: Which Should You Buy?
Soap bars used to be seen as an old-fashioned solution to getting clean. However, using less packaging to store and requiring less water to produce – not to mention lasting longer than their plastic packaged alternatives – these trusty bathroom staples are making a comeback.
The advantages of buying and using bar soap:
- Less energy and water to make – previous studies have found that liquid soap requires around five times more energy to produce than bar soap, as well as nearly 20 times more energy to package!
- No product is wasted – how many times have you thrown away bottles in your bathroom that still have a little product left in the bottom? It can sometimes be difficult to use every last drop of bottled products, however bar soaps allow you to keep using them until there is literally nothing left!
- Easy to recycle packaging – bar soaps more often than not come in boxes made of thin cardboard which can be easily recycled. And, if not recycled (but why wouldn’t you?) cardboard decomposes in a fraction of the time that it takes for plastic to decompose.
- You end up even cleaner – Apparently, the friction created by rubbing the bar against your hands and body can be more effective at removing debris like visible dirt – who knew!
