Aloha Glossies! With this month's Under The Sea box I was inspired to create a cute mermaid makeup look complete with shimmering scales and an ethereal glow. Here's my easy step by step tutorial for you to recreate the look. I also reveal all the products used below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugUvDvbiUUE&feature=youtu.be

Eyeshadow

Using the NARS Narcissist Unfiltered Palette I applied the matte pink and lilac shades Power Play and Candid over my entire eyelid. This is actually a blush palette but I wanted to use pink hues for mythical, mermaid vibes.

I then applied the Illamasqua Powder Eyeshadow in the shade CanCan, which is a gorgeous matte purple shade, in my eye socket for extra definition - mermaid style.

Purple Contouring For Mermaid Definition

Taking a Morphe M510 brush I used the same purple eyeshadow used above from Illamasqua and applied it to where you would usually contour - on your temples, under your cheekbones and on your hairline.

Highlighter

I used the bBold Contour Kit, which is paraben free and vegan friendly! I love the highlighter in this palette because it adds such a high impact sheen. I applied it to brow bones and my cheek bones to add an ethereal and pearly glow.

Setting Spray

I then used the dewy NYX Professional Makeup Makeup Setting Spray. The lightweight formula is the perfect way to keep the highlighter and purple eyeshadow in place.

Setting spray is a must for keeping a dramatic look in place and for adding a dewy glow.

Creating mermaid scales using fishnet tights

Regular fishnet tights are all you need to create mermaid scales! No, seriously! Pop them over the top of your head and hold them so they are firmly in place under your chin.

I then used the Shell Brush from the July GLOSSYBOX to apply 3 different shades on the areas where I wanted mermaid scales! The precise bristles of this brush are perfect for this. Check out my other tutorial on how to use this brush!

3 colours for the scales:

  1. Purple - Illamasqua Powder Eye Shadow in the shade CanCan
  2. Pink - the blush shade from the Tropic Sculpting Palette
  3. Turquoise - Anastasia Beverly Hills Duo Shade Turquoise

Mascara

Inside some of your July boxes is THE ONE 5-in-1 Wonder Lash Mascara from Swedish brand Oriflame. It's a cult product and one of these mascaras is bought every 4 seconds so I had to get in on the action.

The non-waterproof formula makes removing it easy - perfect for when you get back late after a night on the town! It also means you don't need to curl your lashes beforehand because it lifts, curls, volumises, lengthens and separates your lashes - it really is 5 in 1! This is due to the amazing double-sided brush, with short bristles and long bristles.

How to use the double-sided brush

  • For the best results, start by lifting and sculpting lashes with the short bristles
  • Wiggle the brush from side to side while lifting lashes for maximum curl
  • Finally, use the long bristles to comb your lashes to separate, lengthen and define

Sea Salt Hair Spray

I then spritzed the Sea Salt Hair Spray from our July box for voluminous, beachy locks that look like I've just come off the beach! This is such an easy way to amp up your look and it smells incredible too!

Highlight Your Collarbones

As Lydia mentioned in the Facebook Live, I love to highlight my collarbones for an extra glowy look if I'm wearing a strappy top in the summer. I spritzed some of my NYX setting spray onto my collarbones and then used my Shell Brush to apply the INGLOT Shimmering Dust onto my collarbones.
