Forget strong brows, harsh contours and full coverage makeup, this spring is all about smooth textures, soft blends and radiant finishes. That’s right! The soft glam look is the hottest trend this season.

What Is The Soft Glam Look?

While our Instagram feeds and YouTube suggestions had previously been shrouded in beauty tutorials that taught us how to draw on cheekbones, accentuate a chiselled jawline or create the illusion of a thinner nose, makeup bloggers are now demonstrating a much softer look. Think of the soft glam look as a way to emphasize your features rather than change them. There should be no harsh lines or bold changes in texture.

How To Achieve A Soft Glam Look

  • Prep Is Key

You don’t need me to tell you that great makeup starts with even better skin. That’s why you should always apply your makeup after completing your full skincare routine (think cleanser, toner and moisturiser). Oh, and don’t forget to use primer too. It will refine the look of your pores and give you a smooth base off which to work.

Looking for a primer? You can’t go wrong with the MAC Prep+Prime. It’s a lightweight gel that blends sucrose, green tea extract, caffeine, mulberry and algae extracts to reduce redness, soothe skin and even out its tone. Trust me, it really will improve the look of your makeup.

  • Use A Beauty Sponge To Apply Your Makeup

Because makeup brushes are a great way of applying specific products to specific areas, they create a more define and chiselled look. So, when it comes to achieving a soft glam look, it’s best to avoid brushes. Instead, opt for a beauty sponge.

Perfect for blending, it creates a flawless, natural look. Start by patting your foundation onto the larger sections of your face (like your cheeks and forehead), then work your way inwards toward your nose and under eyes. It will allow you to better control how much product you apply and avoid any streaky, unblended makeup.

Looking for a beauty sponge? You can’t beat Real Techniques’ Miracle Complexion Sponge. The rounded side allows you to cover large areas, while the precision tip can be used to target smaller areas. Plus, it works with liquids, creams and powders.

  • Blend, Blend And Blend

Patience is key to achieving the soft glam look. When applying your contour and highlighter, make sure that you use a light hand to trace your features and then spend a good while blending them in. I’ve found that creamy contours, lightly-pigmented highlighter powders and soft-hued blushes work best.

Insider Tip: Try working with different textures to achieve your look. This will prevent any harsh contrasts.

  • Don’t Forget To Set Your Makeup

While you don’t want a fully matte finish, it is essential to set your makeup if you want to maintain a natural, radiant look. For this, you can either spritz a setting spray over your whole face, or buff a setting powder over your entire complexion. Just be careful with powders, as these can change the tone of your makeup.

Looking for a setting spray or powder? The Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray gives you an airbrushed look for up to 16 hours, while the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder sets your makeup for up to 12 hours and uses pearl pigments to add a natural, luminous finish to your skin.
