Elle’s Good Vibes: Body Positivity
In the Story Behind Our ‘Empowerment’ Box blog, I asked you to #stayGLOSSY by coming up with the five things you like about your body and sharing your list with @glossyboxuk using #Glossiesarebeautiful.
I’m so glad so many of you took on the challenge! It’s so easy to think of things we don’t like about ourselves than celebrate those we do. Trust me though, whatever shape you are, you look amazing!
As promised, I took on this small challenge with you guys. I’ve struggled with body dysmorphic disorder since I was a teen (I basically spend a lot of time obsessing and worrying about my physical ‘flaws’), and it’s taken me a long time to be happy with the way I look. I still have my bad days, but I’m proud to say, after longer than I care to admit, I’ve come up with a list of the 5 things that I like about my body:
- My flat stomach – from years of sprinting and sports training, I’m pretty proud of how toned it is.
- My eyes – catch them in the sunlight and they look almost golden.
- My curly hair – while most women with straight locks wish for curly hair, and curly haired women spend ages straightening their tresses, I’m happy with my mane of ringlets.
- My lower back dimples – also called Venus dimples, these are often considered an attractive feature, and I definitely agree!
- My strength – I put my body through pretty vigorous sport sessions, and I love that my body powers through them and rarely lets me down.
Interviews With Inspiring Women
I’ve been speaking to an array of inspiring women this month. I chatted to Scarlett Curtis, curator of the book Feminists Don’t Wear Pink, and Georgie Coleridge Cole [link], founder of SheerLuxe.
Still to come, an interview with BYBI founders Elsie and Dominika and another with MyBaba creator Leonora Bamford. Stay tuned!
