Known as the fashion world’s biggest and boldest night out, the Met Gala is a fundraising benefit held annually for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It brings together A-list celebrities, creatives and fashion industry legends who dress according to a chosen theme.
This year’s event was Camp: Notes On Fashion and the outfits didn’t disappoint. Here are some of the campest and best looks from the 2019 Met Gala.
Lady Gaga Stole The Show
If anyone can rock the ‘camp’ look, it’s Lady Gaga – and the A Star Is Born star definitely showed everyone how it’s done.
Flaunting not just one but four different outfits, the singer arrived at the event wearing a huge hot pink gown with a cascading train and matching bows, then stripped it off live on the red carpet to reveal a strapless black dress which she wore with a matching umbrella. Peeling that away, she then unveiled a body-fitting pink dress and black telephone bag. Last, but certainly not least, she stripped down to her bra, fishnets and underwear, pulling around a wagon filled with rosé and pink cowboy hats.
With this year’s theme being all about over-the-top fashion, Gaga undeniably stole the show.
Ezra Miller Had The Best Makeup
Speaking of the best looks from the 2019 Met Gala, Ezra Miller certainly brought his A-game.
Fully embracing the ‘camp’ theme, he wore seven eyes painted on his face, hidden beneath a mask of his own face. The look was a mind-bending piece of makeup genius quite unlike any other. He then topped off the effect with a scarlet lipstick, white nails and a pin-striped suit fitted with a long train. Best makeup look? No doubt!
Kendall and Kylie Jenner Went All Out
Also among the best looks from the 2019 Met Gala were sisters Kendall and Kylie.
Sporting coordinated showgirl-inspired Versace dresses, fit with brightly-coloured feathers and semi-sheer netting, the two looked amazing! While Kylie boasted little mermaid vibes, Kendall looked like a real-life fire emoji.
Janelle Monáe Wore An Eye Catching Gown
I couldn’t give you a round-up of the best looks from the 2019 Met Gala without mentioning Janelle Monáe and her theatrical outfit.
Looking like a Picasso or Dali surrealist painting, she wore a hat sculpture made up of four top hats, as well as a black, pink and white ballooned gown embellished with a motorised blinking eye over one breast. Her camp factor was off the chart!
Dua Lipa Won Best Dressed
My personal favourite outfit of the night? Dua Lipa’s gorgeous gown and matching boots signed Versace.
Camp fashion is a celebration of extremes and Dua’s excessive beehive hairdo and bold, colourful dress, with its oversized bow and cascading train, definitely ticked all the boxes.
