Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Transform Your Beauty Regime

Traditional Chinese Medicine Can Transform Your Beauty Regime

It’s Chinese New Year and the celebrating can last for up to two weeks (wow)!

2018 is an Earth Dog Year, which according to the Chinese horoscope, is a good time for lifestyle changes and new adventures. So we thought we’d venture into the world of Chinese medicine as it’s been a source of beauty wisdom for over 2000 years.

Here’s our pick of the most interesting ingredients that can naturally enhance your skin!

Reishi

This amazing deep red mushroom has anti-inflammatory properties; protecting sensitive skin from redness, flare-ups and slowing down premature aging. Plus, it’s a true superfood in its edible form – used for its calming properties and to boost the immune system.

Rice Bran

Similar in consistency to peanut oil, rice bran oil is extracted from the germ and inner husk of rice. Having a long-standing history in traditional Chinese medicine, it consists of a high percentage of fatty acids, making it perfect for skin hydration. It’s also full of antioxidants and vitamins B and E, which makes it brilliant for soothing and protecting skin.

Both Reishi and Rice bran can be found in the Mega-Mushroom Micellar Cleanser, £23.80, which was inspired by Dr. Andrew Weil’s travels to China. Its no-rinse, soap and alcohol-free formula works to eliminate excess oil, dirt, make-up and impurities without over-drying or uncomfortable tightness.

Chinese Skullcap

This strange sounding herb that’s been used for an impressive variety of ailments – from insomnia, to hayfever, to inflammation!

It can be found in the iconic Grow Gorgeous Hair Growth Serum, £30, that can be directly applied to the scalp. It acts as an anti-oxidant to protect the scalp and reinforce cells for repaired and stronger hair fibres.

Turmeric

For thousands of years in China, the use of Turmeric (yes what you put in your curry), was extremely popular for radiant and healthy skin. This herb has fantastic healing properties including reducing inflammation, signs of blemishes and acne to leave your complexion clear and glowing.

The Mega Mushroom Treatment Lotion from Origins, £24.65, is packed with Turmeric alongside Ginger and a unique mushroom blend to make your skin gorgeous!

White Lotus & Yi Yi Ren

We couldn’t write about Chinese skincare without mentioning the RITUALS collection that’s inspired by the wisdom and ancient traditions of Asian cultures. We absolutely love their products and the unique aromatic fragrances of their ranges.

Commonly referred to as Chinese Pearl Barley, Yi Yi Ren is a Chinese herb in The Ritual Of Dao collection. Try the Calming Ritual Gift Set, £29.50, or just the Body Cream to start with, £15.30, for full body relaxion and rejuvenation.

Try some of the beauty products that contain these ancient Chinese ingredients and see for yourself if they transform your skin.
