It’s the season of skirts and short sleeves, not to mention swimwear, so it’s time to buff-up and get your best skin yet and we’ve got the scrubs to get you there…
The Sanctuary Spa Ultimate Salt Scrub, £13, sits on the side of your bath and taunts you to use it every time you see it. It’s a delicious blend dead sea salts, coconut, sweet almond and jojoba oils. As the sea salts lift away dead skin cells and massage your circulation into action the oils melt into your fresh, new skin giving it a lustre and healthy glow. It’s not an everyday scrub, but a once-in-a-while treat that you’ll use and immediately see and feel the difference.
If your skin is dry, you struggle with ingrown hair or get the bumpy, red skin associated Keratosis Pilaris then the Ameliorate Smoothing Body Exfoliator, £17.50, should be an immediate addition to your bathroom cabinet. As well as biodegradable microdermabrasion granules there’s lactic acid, a naturally occurring Alpha Hydroxy Acid, that encourages skin cell renewal – hello smooth, glowing skin. Unlike other scrubs you apply this to dry skin pre-shower, give yourself a massage and then rinse off.
The key with any scrub is not to go in too hard. If you’re scrubbing away vigorously then you’re just rubbing yourself raw as opposed to polishing yourself to a glow. Lush Life’s a Beach Body Scrub Powder, £15.95, is the kind of scrub you should linger over. Grab a handful, add water and gently massage it in all over, focusing on areas that get especially dry or dull, and rinse away. Sea salt, tonka bean, vanilla and gardenia also make this particular scrub especially enjoyable.
If you like to recreate the scents and sounds of a spa in your bathroom then the Clinique Sparkle Skin Body Exfoliator, £22, helps you achieve the former. Enriched with botanical ingredients, the gel-like formula does the job for revealing brighter, healthier-looking skin with minimal effort, while the addition of menthol helps rejuvenate the body and senses.
The Grounded Body Scrubs became something of a cult beauty buy when they launched thanks to the blending of ground coffee beans for invigoration and stimulation and essential oils. Grounded Body Scrub Grapefruit Scent Coffee Scrub, £15, is a no-nonsense scrub that feels rougher than other exfoliators, but delivers smoothness and a pick-me-up. The way to get the best out of this? Massage into skin and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing or soaking off in the bath.
If you like to scrub daily then Original Source Mint/Tea Tree Daily Exfoliating Scrub, £1.95, is well worth keeping in the shower. While the almond particles see off dull skin the combination of mint and tea tree provides the ultimate in-shower inhalation to wake you up on sluggish mornings.
If you like a fruity start to your day then Garnier Body Tonic Scrub, £6.99, with its natural fruit extracts is a great choice to get you closer to airbrushed, glowing skin. Use on damp skin for best results and give a little extra attention to trouble spots to really polish yourself towards that post-shower glow.
Here’s another scrub that begs to be scooped-out by the handful in your pursuit of polished and nourished skin. Miss Patisserie Watermelon Sugar Scrub, £13, needs a quick stir to blend the jojoba and sweet almond oils and sugar particles – and watermelon is just one ‘flavour’ in a delicious choice of options including peppermint, lotus flower, peony and mango…
