As September draws closer, it’s time to start embracing a selection of the latest makeup trends for autumn and winter – and let us tell you, there are some very exciting things in store for your glossy faces.
From graphic eyeliner to gloss contouring, we’ve whittled down some of our favourite looks that will take you from day to night all season long. And watch this space, as we’ll be hopping in the GLOSSYBOX beauty booth next month to trial a few of them out on ourselves!
Strobe and gloss contouring
Modern contouring techniques are flooding in like there’s no tomorrow, but our firm favourite trickled down from fashion week. The trick is to enhance the skin with light and gloss, rather than contour. Backstage at Nina Ricci, make-up guru Aaron de Mey applied clear gloss to eyelids and a band of highlighter to cheekbones in a bid to enhance each models facial features. So if this one is for you, a white-hued liquid illuminator like MAC’s Strobe Cream, £24.50, will be your new BFF. We’ve even put together a little glossy contouring guide for you.
High octane lips
Lipsticks that pack a colourful punch are on the cards this winter, and we couldn’t be happier! The London shows renewed our ever-growing love of bold colours – teamed with beautifully glowing skin, naturally.
Earthy hues and a ‘back from vacation glow’
We tend to put our bronzer on the back burner when the cold weather arrives, but hold fire before you do this year – because a post-holiday glow is what we’ll all be after if the shows are anything to go by. Warm skin and earthy hues are your secret weapon and by this we’re talking mossy eyeshadows, browny nude lipsticks and sheeny bronzers. Dab them on to your cheeks, the brow bone and the lids for a fresh-faced glow.
We spotted artistically impressive strokes of liner across the eyes at the majority of the autumn/winter 2015 shows. Whether you go for a bold or pared-back finish, the best part about this look is you can interpret it to suit your own style. From painterly feathered stripes across the eyes of the Fendi girl in Milan to the dot to dot’ blue shadow at Eudon Choi in London, it’s time to embrace your creativity for the season ahead. Pick up a pot of liner, a small makeup brush and get painting!
Grit and glamour
With buzzwords including gothic and grunge being bandied about one minute and Swarovski crystals being applied under lash lines the next, the shows fused a mixture of grit and glamour into their beauty aesthetics – and we absolutely adored it. It’s all about smudgy black lines, the deepest of rouge lips and the fairest of washed-out complexions known to man – with a sprinkle of glitter thrown in for good measure.
