Trendy Talons: Nail Summer With These Top Looks

We've taken you through spring and summer's different hair and make-up personalities, so now it's time to draw our attention to all things nails.

As pro manicurist Marian Newman perfectly put it ‘nails stand alone now, so they can go up against your make-up’. Gone are the days of matching your red lip hue to the colour you’re slicking on your nails, it’s time to mix things up a bit.

We’ve rounded up a trio of glossy micro trends to give you a little inspiration. How will you be painting your nails this season?

The luxe maniWe're going back to basics, as the overall premise for nails this summer is enhanced minimalism – peachy nude hues and beautifully manicured nails that look healthy, shiny and strong are the best way to showcase your tan. Take time to massage in hand cream and cuticle oil for a spa-like freshness.

At Alexander Wang, Essie manicurist Michelle Saunders created a warm, soft and overall flattering look - aptly described as being like 'the Valencia filter on Instagram'. Shreen Gayle was at Issa, painting nails with a flesh-like tint to enhance the natural nail colour.

Tonal pastelsIn tune with spring’s trend for festival shades on the face, chalky blues, lavenders, baby doll pinks and charcoaled greys were used in a graphic yet delicate manner on nails, too.

Nail Artist Naomi Kasuda teamed pastel shades with a hint of metallic at Kenzo, for a beautifully bespoke design that embodied a slightly futuristic edge - while Keri Blair was backstage at Desigual using an array of pastel colours to create a floral-patterned mani.

Negative spacingOne of the biggest trends to trickle down from the spring/summer 2015 shows was negative spacing - and by this we mean nude nails with simplistic detailing.  It's somewhere in between full-on nail art and a French manicure, giving the illusion of lacquer floating against a bare nail.

To accompany Wes Gordon's collection, Essie manicurist Rita Remark painted a sophisticated yet effortlessly cool design that resembled linen against the skin.
