Our Favourite Mermaid-Inspired Beauty Products

Now that the sun is finally peeking out from behind the clouds, we’re counting down the days until summer officially arrived and we can pop on our new summer dresses, sport tousled waves and start applying all our summery makeup that’s been on the back-burner since last year.

It’s also the season to channel your inner mermaid, whether you float away like an amphibian goddess, add texture to your hair or an ocean-like sparkle to your makeup. In whatever way you’re going to make a splash, we’ve got your beauty buys covered…

The makeup brushes
With 12 pretty rose gold and hot pink makeup brushes that’ll cover all you application needs – from contouring to concealing – and a holographic clam-shaped case that doubles as a handbag to keep them all in, we’re sensing there may be a rush to buy Spectrum Pearly Queen The Bomb Shell, £79.99.

The perfume
There are certain scents that make you think of sun, sea and sand and Molton Brown Blue Cypress & Sea Fennel parfum, £39 (launching May), does just this. It perfectly depicts the aroma of a trip to the seaside, conjuring up images of salty days on the beach, sun-kissed skin and beautiful landscapes.

The shampoo
If you want to fast track yourself to mermaid status then this is the beauty buy for you. Mermaid Perfume Mermaid Shampoo, £26, is an all-natural and sulphate-free formula that leaves hair smelling like orange blossom and coconut.

The highlighter
For an iridescent, glossy sheen across your cheekbones, Milk Makeup Holographic Stick, £22.50, takes highlighting to new levels. It leaves a slick of prismatic pearlescence in its path, for a mermaid-style glow within one sweep of the stick. What’s more, the formula contains mango butter, avocado oil and peach nectar to help keep your skin hydrated. Or if you’re after a highlighting palette that literally screams mermaid, turn to Sleek Makeup Highlighting Palette in Midas Touch, £10. It provides four pretty shades, all of which add a shimmery, mermaid-esque glow to your skin.

The glitter
The only kind of dust we can get on board with is the Barry M Dazzle Dust in Electric Blue, £4.59. Deep, rich blue pigments make it an easy addition if you want to channel your inner mermaid.

The eyeshadow
Forget the new Little Mermaid movie, if there is ever a remake of Splash the main character should be wearing this iridescent shadow when we meet her. The Estée Edit Metallishadow Creme + Powder in Aqua Nova, £17, is all the shades of green and blue you might see sparkle on the surface of the ocean in the sunshine. You don’t need to be born in water to know how flattering the aqua tones of green and blue can be, especially on the eyes. Estee Lauder Magic Smoky in Sea Smoke, £18, can be blended into a fine wash of colour that gives the prettiest veil of colour.

The nail polish
If you don’t want sparkle in your makeup, but want to feel a little like Ariel then a coat, or two, of Barry M Molten Metal Nail Paint in Blue Glacier, £3.99, will get you there.

The bath bomb
If you don’t live by the coast then you may yearn for waves, sand and sea water. A close-second might be a bath with Lush Big Blue Bath Bomb, £3.50, that not only makes you feel like a mermaid in a bath of blue water, but also contains kelp to soften the water and your skin.
