If sheer, natural-looking makeup is what you’re after then it’s high time you grabbed yourself some cushion makeup. The name not only tells you what’s in store – cream colour cosmetics delivered via a sponge – it also describes the texture and feel of the wear – pure comfort.
As the latest makeup craze hailing from Korea, cushion compacts are a brand new way to cover and enhance your complexion. What’s more, they’re slightly different from other formulas, such as creams, lotions and powders, because they are much more easily layered. The feel is lighter, but the pay-off for the weightless texture is by no means less coverage.
While the potential build up of bacteria in the sponge is a little questionable, the latest makeup craze could be your best beauty buddy for natural-looking skin.
Here are a few cushion compacts we adore…
Cushion foundations are popular for giving anything from a sheer BB cream-like finish to a heavier, full coverage base. The versatility means this pop-it-in-your-handbag compact can give you a full face or be dabbed on for concealer-style touch-ups or just to freshen up your look. MAC Matchmaster Shade Intelligence Compact, £29.50, delivers a sheer liquid foundation that looks skin-true while Lancôme Miracle Cushion Foundation, £30, is a cushion foundation that offers high velvety coverage and delivers an SPF of 50.
The sheer, liquid formula of cushion compacts allows for greater blend-ability and a believable finish. For a bronzer that looks a natural tan they are a great choice. L’Oreal Cushion de Soleil Bronzer, £14.99, warms into cheeks and because the formula is sheer it can be used to contour too.
The warmth that a natural blush gives skin can be mimicked very easily with the sheer cushion-friendly liquid. Just dab into the centre of cheeks and tap into skin or buff out with a beauty blender or brush – it’s a healthy glow in no time. Dab your ring finger into Shu Uemura’s Kye Fresh Cushion Blusher, £36, pat into your cheeks and you’re good to go. We also love Lancôme’s Cushion Blush Subtil, £28, for its ability to impart a healthy flush of natural looking colour to cheeks.
