You’ve no doubt heard of hyaluronic, polyglutamic and salicylic acids before, and while they should all have a space on your beauty shelf, you might just need to make room for one more. Cue tranexamic acid!
What Is Tranexamic Acid?
While you may have used tranexamic medication before to treat excessive bleeding (hello, heavy periods!), it has recently made its skincare debut. Now found in serums and treatments, it’s the new powerhouse ingredient for treating pigmentation, dark spots and acne scarring.
How Does It Work?
Tranexamic acid has a powerful anti-inflammatory effect which impedes the production of melanin, the pigment in your skin that makes it darker and can cause discolouration. So, when sun damage and scarring may have caused dark spots previously, tranexamic acid now helps to prevent this hyperpigmentation. It can also even out your skin tone and fade already existing pigmentation.
Keep using it every day and you should start to see results after a couple of months.
Can I Use Tranexamic Acid With Other Products?
There’s more good news here too! Tranexamic acid doesn’t react with other ingredients. You can safely add it to your normal skincare routine. If you really want to make it as effective as possible, though, then I’d suggest pairing it with other brightening ingredients too, like vitamin C.
What Products Should I Use?
This peel allows you to re-energise dull, lifeless skin by encouraging skin renewal. It blends an array of acids to lift dead skin cells and unclog congested pores. Meanwhile, the tranexamic acid promotes a brighter and more even skin tone to fight discolouration. Restoring and invigorating, this peel reveals soft and glowy skin!
