The Best Skincare Routine For Autumn

The Best Skincare Routine For Autumn

The leaves are changing colour, the temperatures are dropping and pumpkin spiced hot drinks are everywhere – autumn has officially arrived! While it’s instinctive to switch up your wardrobe at this time of year and trade in your summer mini dress for a cosy jumper, you should also think about adapting your skincare routine to the changing weather.

How Cold Weather Affects Your Complexion

Over the last few weeks, you may have noticed your skin feeling dry just a few hours after applying your moisturiser, or a few unwanted lines appearing around your eyes, or extra spots sprouting. These are just a few unfortunate effects of colder, drier and blusterier autumnal weather – particularly as your face gets the most exposure to these harsh conditions. Don’t worry though Glossies, we’ve got you covered! Here’s an autumnal skincare routine that will give your complexion its healthy summer glow back.

Five Steps To A Healthy Skincare Routine In Autum

1. Cleanse

A good skincare routine should always start with a cleansing sesh. By washing away impurities and dirt, a cleanser helps maintain a clear and smooth complexion. I love the Garnier Skin Micellar Cleansing Water. I’ll use it in the morning to refresh and nourish my face, and as a makeup remover in the evening. It’s affordable, great quality and sensitive-skin friendly – what’s not to love?

2. Exfoliate

This is the best way to give your complexion a healthy and smooth feel. Exfoliating will get rid of damaged cells and remove any flakiness caused by over-exposure to the sun this summer.

A friendly reminder though Glossies, as you’ll probably need to exfoliate more now than in the warmer months, make sure you choose a gentle treatment to avoid irritation. I like the Visible Difference Skin Balancing Exfoliating Cleanser by Elizabeth Arden. It helps treat age spots, acne and fine lines, while also prepping your skin to better absorb your moisturiser.

3. Tone

If your skin is feeling sensitive, a toner is your irritation-free alternative to an exfoliator. It removes dirt and oil, while also giving your face an extra dose of much-needed hydration during these drier months. Toner is also brilliant for minimizing the appearance of pesky pores! Personally, I’ve got a soft spot for the Vichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner.

4. Moisturise

Dry, cold and windy weather is your skin’s worst enemy – so make sure you’re always armed with a good moisturiser to shield your skin from dehydration. The thisworks in transit camera close-up from your October GLOSSYBOX is the perfect weapon.

Made from a blend of repairing plant oils, this natural moisturiser plumps, evens and brightens your complexion instantly.

For best results, apply it to your now cleansed, exfoliated and toned skin and massage gently until absorbed – even Victoria Beckham approves.

5. Prime

If you’re about to apply makeup, then priming your skin is essential too.

The multi-purpose thisworks in transit camera close-up also works as a nourishing primer that holds your make-up in place all day! You can even use it as a hydrating mask by applying a slightly thicker layer before going to bed.

So there you have it, five simple steps to switch up your autumn skincare routine. Revitalised skin, here we come!
