Beauty School: Looks Using MUA’s Eyeshadow Palette

We have a treat in store for Glossies! This August it’s our 5th birthday, so we wanted to give you something special to celebrate.

Alongside collaborating with luxe accessory label Rae Feather on a beautiful limited edition box design, we’ve also joined forces with MUA and popped one of four best-selling eyeshadow palettes inside! We asked you in June to choose your favourite colour combination, but don’t worry if you didn’t pick, our beauty experts are on hand to make the selection for you!

We enlisted the help of our makeup ambassador Emma O’Byrne and created two key on-trend looks using each palette, to show you the looks you’ll be able to achieve!

GOLDEN GODDESS (using the Glitter Ball palette)MUA-GLITTER-BALL-PALETTE-TUTORIAL

Look 1: Sweep ‘Jive’ over the entire lid, intensifying the colour slightly in the inner corner. Using ‘Hustle’, gently smoke the outer corner of the eye making sure to taper the smudge. Next, pack on the golden shimmer of ‘Inferno’ and blend both ‘Jive’ and ‘Hustle’ together where they meet. Take a fine smudging brush and run ‘Hustle’ under the lower lash line, making sure to join it to the tapered smoke of the outer corner. Using the same brush, take ‘Inferno’ and run it under the lower lash line, over the top of ‘Hustle’.

Look 2: Dap your eyeshadow brush in ‘Remix’ and sweep it over your entire lid, then create a subtle smoke in the outer corner of the eye using ‘Hustle’. Create a mermaid-esque line of colour under your eye using ‘Vibe’ – keep your eyeshadow brush close to your lashes and trace your lash line along from the inner to the outer corner of your eye.

SIXTIES SIREN (using the Starry Night palette)MUA-STARRY-NIGHT-PALETTE-TUTORIALLook 1: First, sweep ‘Pixis’ over the your lid using a fluffy eye shadow brush. To achieve the 60’s summer look, mix ‘Vela’ and ‘Palo’ using a small, dense brush. Starting in the inner corner of the eye, run this colour across the entire crease of the lid in a swift line. Make sure when you get the the outer corner of the eye you flick the line out, as you would with eyeliner. Take this same colour and starting at the inner corner, run it across the lower lash line finishing half way, directly under the pupil. To finish the look, sweep a second line of colour at the outer corner running directly under the first slick created.

Look 2:
For a icy smokey eye, press a little ‘Aquila’ into the inner corner of your eyelid. Using an eyeshadow brush, gradually smoke this colour out until you reach the centre of your lid, then dab your eyeshadow brush in ‘Cetus’ and sweep it over the remainder of your lid, blending both colours together where they meet in the centre. Take a fine smudging brush and run ‘Cetus’ under the lower lash line, making sure to join it to the tapered smoke of the outer corner. Using the same brush, take ‘Aquila’ and run it under the lower lash line, over the top of ‘Cetus’ to create a cooling, soft finish.

BRONZED BEAUTY (using the Heaven & Earth palette)MUA-HEAVEN-EARTH-PALETTE-TUTORIALLook 1: Using a fluffy eyeshadow brush, sweep ‘Amber Dune’ over the eye. Use the same brush in the crease of the eye with the shades ‘Bedrock’ and ‘Tectonite’. Make sure you smoke out the edges of the outer corner for the perfect smokey look. Next, add a golden shimmer in the centre of the eye using ‘Babylon’. To finish off the look, use a dense smudging brush and run ‘Amazonian Bronze’ under the lower lash line.

Look 2: For a subtle, neutral look, sweep ‘Myan Dust’ across your top eyelid, taking it right to the inner corner of your eye to add a little light. Next, create a subtle smoke in the outer corner of the eye using ‘Cata-Comb’. Take a fine smudging brush and run ‘Myan Dust’ under the lower lash line, making sure to join it to the tapered smoke of the outer corner. Using the same brush, take ‘Cata-Comb’ and run it under the lower lash line over the top of ‘Myan Dust’, taking it right to the inner corner of your eye – then smudge out.

BOLDLY BARDOT (using the Hall of Fame palette)MUA-HALL-OF-FAME-PALETTE-TUTORIALLook 1: Prep the eye with the perfect bone shade of ‘Bare’ to even out the surface. Concentrating on the centre of the eye, pack on the golden shade of ‘Lion’. With a very light touch, take a dense smudging brush and smoke the inner corner, crease and outer corner with ‘Titan’. Next, with a clean brush, take more of ‘Lion’ and gently press on the shimmer to intensify the colour. For a perfect sultry look, take ‘Titan’ and run it underneath the lash tine, then smudge out.

Look 2: Press ‘Bare’ onto the top of your eyelid, then give it a subtle sheeny smoke by using an eyeshadow brush to dust a little ‘Rose Ash’ in the outer corner, blending it in with ‘Bare’ where they meet in the middle. With a clean brush, gently line ‘Rose Ash’ along your lower lash line, so it joins up to the shadow at the outer corner of the top lid.
