GLOSSYBOX’s Beauty Editor Alice Jones tells us which products make it home to her bathroom shelf…
“I keep things fairly simple when it comes to beauty. I love nothing more than experimenting with lots of different products, but when my day-to-day routine comes into play I know what I like and tend to stick to it.
As a child, I’d sit in my parents’ bedroom watching my mum get ready for an evening out, absolutely fascinated by the way she applied her make-up and wanting to get my hands on all the lotions and potions that sat on top of her dressing table.
When it comes down to make-up, I flit between using Shu Uemura Lightbulb Foundation, £36, through winter and a lighter formula like Bare Minerals Tinted Hydrating Gel, £26, during summer. I’ve never really been one for contouring but Illamasqua’s new Gel Colours, £22, totally changed my mind, as they’re far more subtle and understated. I’m quite pared back with my eyes and not really one for shadow, but I’ll occasionally add a slick of Bobbi Brown liquid eyeliner, £22 and I absolutely love mascara. I usually cocktail a few together – my favourite duo at the moment is Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Mascara, £22.95 and Benefit Roller Lash, £19.50.
I’m pretty obsessed with skincare and the science behind it, so if there’s an area I over-indulge in, skincare is it. While I have my firm favourites like Emma Hardie, Sarah Chapman and La Roche Posay, I’m always on the lookout for new additions. I use a decent exfoliator like Lancer The Method Polish, £60, a few times a week followed by GlamGlow Mud Mask, £25 to cleanse and detoxify. Avene Cleansing Gel, £11, is amazing for sensitive skin as it doesn’t include any soap, while still removing all your make-up in one fell swoop. Then for that all-important boost in hydration, I turn to Emma Hardie Age Support Eye Cream, £39 and Ren V Cense Youth Vitality Day Cream, £28.
I culled heat tools from my life a few years ago as my hair was endlessly breaking off at the ends – so other than blow-drying and very occasionally adding some loose waves for a night out that’s as far as it goes. Original & Mineral The Power Base, £26, is one of the best hair masks I’ve ever used and has totally restored my once-damaged hair to its former healthy self. If there’s one thing I have in excess, it’s probably perfume. I go through different phases, but at the moment I love Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt, £40 – it literally smells like the seaside.”
