Oil Over It

It started with cleansing oils. A few years ago who’d have imagined that an army of women would be removing the day’s make-up, grime and oil with, well, more oil?

Now oils are slipping into everything, from lip colours and face masks to fake tans, marrying the hydrating benefits of the slippery stuff with the properties of all our favourite products.

Suffice to say we’re ‘oil’ over this new trend and it’s this slick little lot that are leading the way:

Get ready for a new era of gloss (yep, you heard it here first). This smart tint adapts to your natural lip colour and provides the shine without the stickiness.
Yves Saint Laurent Oil Volupté Tint-in-Oil, £23.50

The world’s first mud-to-oil mask combines four muds and four oils to deeply cleanse skin as a once-a-week treatment. It glides over the face, before slowly hardening as the clays come into play and then transforming into an oil on contact with water, making it much easier to wash off than other mud masks.
Glam Glow PowerMud Dual Cleanse Treatment, £39.99

When serum doesn’t offer the luxurious slip-factor of an oil, but face oil alone doesn’t tick all your anti-ageing boxes, it’s time to turn to this clever hybrid. Half oil, half serum, it blends Caudalie’s famous anti-agers (which are extracted from grape-seeds and include resveratrol), with five plant oils to lift, smooth and nourish.
Caudalie Premier Cru Elixir, £49

Fast drying, non-sticky and nourishing, consider this the ultimate fake tan. The dry oil texture makes it a dream to blend and leaves skin with a soft sheen that washes off once it has developed.
St Tropez Self Tan Luxe Dry Oil, £25

Like a balm, only better. The hazelnut, mirabelle and jojoba oils melt into lips, protecting and nourishing them, and providing a glossy finish that doesn’t slip off within minutes.
Clarins Instant Light Lip Comfort Oil, £18
