Beauty Shelfie: Rachel Kavanagh

GLOSSYBOX Managing Director Rachel Kavanagh talks us through the beauty products on her bathroom shelf…

“My mother was the epitome of glamour, even putting lipstick on before dinner at home! So my first encounter with make-up came when I pinched a red lipstick from her make-up bag! But MAC Studio Fix Foundation was the first product I ever bought for myself. I have such pale skin and had it matched exactly, so I looked like a ghost. That was my first lesson: warm up the complexion.

My beauty style is very regimented. I stick to the same make-up because I know what suits me, but I’m always trying new formulas and textures to keep it fresh.

I like a smudgy brown liner for eyes during the day, and usually use NARS Dual Eyeshadow, £25 to take it up a notch for the evening, followed by a slick of Essence Mascara, £3.30. It lifts and curls without clumping – I always apply a few coats to build up the volume.

I pair this with pink flushed cheeks courtesy of Laura Mercier Creme Cheek, £21.50.  I adore cream blush, I find it much softer then powder and easier to control. Lord and Berry Lip Crayons, £10, are my go-to for adding a little colour to the lips – usually in a tangerine red. They’re so easy to use on the go, so I can quickly top up in between meetings.Shelfie close up

Despite being in my thirties I still get bad breakouts, so I’m always in search of new products that give me a decent base. Mineral foundations are great for this, especiallySheer Cover Foundation, £24.95, as it’s so lightweight. But my latest find is NARS All Day Luminous Weightless Foundation, £32. It glides on so you only need a tiny amount, but it provides AMAZING luminous coverage that lasts all day. I apply it using a brush, my favourite is SpaceNK Foundation Brush, £25, it’s easy to grip and the hairs never come off on your face – major plus!

I was introduced to Erborian’s CC Cream, £36, by make-up artist Emma O’Bryne, and it’s truly life changing! It’s ideal for Sundays when you want to switch to something lighter than a foundation. It goes on white and turns to a shade to suit your skin – it’s like magic! Then if I need a little extra coverage under my eyes, I turn to Charlotte Tilbury The Retoucher, £25. I’m obsessed with her entire collection.

Another life-changing discovery was Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate, £56 – it hasn’t left my sight since I bought it and has given me cheekbones. I also love Tom Ford Noir de Noir, £142, it’s the most divine, sexy fragrance and is ideal for night time – plus it looks great on your bathroom shelf, don’t you think?”
